by AFA Executive and Artistic Director, Michael Remson, AFA’s Alumni
Internship Program offers college-age AFA alumni a unique paid employment
opportunity in the field of arts management.
The internship is designed to be an educational, working experience for alumni of AFA. Interns work closely with the Executive Staff as they assist in managing the day-to-day operations of AFA from behind the scenes. As former students themselves, interns are in a position to mentor and assist current students, become important role models, and be the “public face” of AFA. Interns are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, teamwork, and willingness to participate whenever needed. The Alumni Internship program is neither a playing residency nor an office job. Interns can expect to perform a wide variety of tasks and take part in many aspects of administration, production, newsletter development, fundraising and operations. Interns may also be asked to coach student chamber music groups, to perform with student and faculty groups as needed and to assist academic departments in curriculum implementation. Regularly scheduled classes with AFA faculty and staff help interns develop administrative, marketing and fundraising skills. Interns apply what they learn to implement a series of special projects in support of AFA, thereby gaining important practical experience. In this way, Alumni Interns provide a critical link between the faculty and students and are an important factor in the overall success of the Summer Music Conservatory. Available Positions
