Thanks for your interest in AFA. You can use the short form below to send us a question, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Who can apply for an AFA program? We are looking for musicians who have a minimum of 1-2 years experience with their instrument or in school based music programs. Orchestra programs are open to musicians in fourth through twelfth grade. Choir and piano are open to middle and high school students (6th-12th grade). Composition is open to 8th grade and above only.
How do I apply? There are two steps to apply for any AFA program. First, you must complete an application form (link) and, if needed, a scholarship application. Second, you must play an audition. You schedule your audition as part of completing the application.
When will I find out if I have been accepted to an AFA program? We are usually able to notify students about their admission status 2-4 weeks after their audition date and after receiving a complete application form.
When will I find out if I have received scholarship assistance? Scholarship decisions are made after a student has applied, auditioned and has been accepted into their respective program. The scholarship award is then listed on the student’s Tuition Statement (which is included with your enrollment package).
How can I get tickets to a concert? All AFA concerts are free and open to the public - no tickets are necessary. Please join us and bring your friends and family.
Where is AFA? Our administrative offices and rehearsal space for the AFA Year Round Academy’s chamber music groups are located in the historic Old Sixth Ward just outside downtown Houston. The physical address is 1718 A Lubbock Street. Other programs and concerts are held at various venues. Please visit each program page for exact location information.
