The Frazier Merriman Award
The Frazier Merriman Award is a biennial award to honor a person or organization that has greatly impacted arts education in Houston and/or AFA’s arts education legacy in Houston. This award is named in honor of the Frazier and Merriman families for their generous support of AFA. The Frazier and Merriman families are founding patrons of AFA and include AFA Founder, J. Todd Frazier.
The 2011 recipient of The Frazier Merriman Award is Pat Bonner, Head of the Music Department at Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Pat is one of Texas’ strongest advocates for arts education in our schools and has been a long time friend, loyal supporter, and Advisory Board member of AFA. Her advice and recommendations contributed greatly to the success of AFA’s High School Choral and Vocal program (celebrating it’s tenth anniversary in 2012) and to the launch of the Middle School Choral program (celebrating five years).
