Carly Galloway
Summer Music Festival: String Ensembles Institute Conductor
Carly Galloway began playing the violin at the age of 10 through the Klein Independent School District 5th Grade Strings Program. She continued playing in her school orchestra at Wunderlich Intermediate School and Klein Forest High School, ultimately deciding to pursue a degree in Music Education.
Carly attended the University of Houston Moores School of Music, where she studied violin with Andrzej Grabiec and was a member of the Moores School Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Franz Krager. During her time at Moores, she also participated in masterclasses with world-renowned pedagogues Kathleen Winkler and Timothy Hester, as well as obtaining a coveted spot in the 2016 Texas Music Festival Orchestra, working with Hans Graf, Glen Dicterow, and many others.
For three years, she served as a string intern for the AFA Summer Music Festival and AFA Year-Round Programs, where she frequently coached chamber music groups and sectionals. She now returns every summer to coach chamber groups and lead violin and viola sectionals as a faculty artist.
Carly graduated with a degree in Music Education in May of 2016 and served as the Assistant Orchestra Director at Ulrich Intermediate School in Klein ISD for 7 years. Under her tutelage, the Ulrich Orchestras received consistent superior ratings at UIL Contests. During the 2020-2021 school year, Carly led students in a historical occurrence of all three competing ensembles receiving a rating of Sweepstakes, as well as the Ulrich Chamber Orchestra being named as a finalist in the 2021 Mark of Excellence Competition and Ulrich Full Orchestra was named as a finalist in the 2023 Mark of Excellence Competition.
Carly is thrilled to be back at Wunderlich Intermediate School and to help continue the great legacy of music making that she was once a part of as a student. She enjoys working with her students and watching them not only grow and develop their musical skills, but also their character and self-esteem.
Carly is equally thrilled to be invited again to return to AFA, this time as a conductor! Her hope is that this year’s AFA students are as excited about making music as she once was an AFA student, and that their experience is one of growth and enrichment.
