AFA students build long-lasting relationships with their fellow peers and our faculty through the process of learning, rehearsing, creating and performing music. For many students, AFA is the first time they experience a sense of accomplishment and independence through the arts—an experience that can profoundly impact their lives.
We believe that financial hardship should never be a barrier between a student and these experiences and we need your support to ensure that we can continue to provide for our students.

Individual Giving: Play It Forward Fund
The actual cost of each AFA program is significantly subsidized through AFA’s fundraising efforts—some as much as 50%. AFA students apply for and receive individual tuition assistance to further offset the tuition cost of AFA’s programs. In the 2022-23 season, 91% of AFA students received assistance from the Play It Forward Fund. By contributing to AFA’s Play It Forward Fund, which underwrites tuition assistance, instruments, and private lessons for AFA students, you are helping to guarantee that financial hardship will never be a barrier between a young musician and the experiences that shape their future.
Sustained Contributions
Sustaining Contributors provide a dependable, ongoing source of funding that allows AFA to continue its mission of enriching the lives of young people through music.

Bayou City Duck Race
AFA’s annual fundraiser is not only fun, it’s an excellent opportunity to get funds straight to students! Each year, AFA hosts a rubber duck race on Buffalo Bayou on the first Saturday in November, inviting our friends, families, and community to come out and support the Play It Forward Fund.
