Dr. Elizabeth Schumann
Summer Music Festival: Piano Arts Workshop Piano
Dr. Elizabeth Schumann is a passionate pianist and dedicated teacher based in Houston, Texas. A native of Dallas, she brings over a decade of experience in solo, collaborative, and teaching settings. She holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and a Masters of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado – Boulder, where she studied with Dr. Jennifer Hayghe. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a Pedagogy emphasis at Southern Methodist University under Dr. Catharine Lysinger, receiving the Paul Van Katwijk Award and graduating cum laude. Elizabeth served as a graduate teaching assistant during her D.M.A., teaching class piano and accompanying a variety of instruments.
Elizabeth maintains an independent piano studio and accompanies several middle and high school choirs in the Houston area. In addition to teaching, she is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association. She currently serves as Secretary of the Forum Music Teachers Association, participates as a TMTA Theory Test grader, and is a member of the MTNA Collegiate Symposium Planning Committee. She is also a Program Development Coordinator for the Frances Clark Center.
