Violist Matthew Weathers is a Houston-based performer and teacher. A member of the Houston Ballet Orchestra and active freelancer, Matthew regularly performs with most of Houston’s leading musical institutions, including the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, Mercury Chamber Orchestra, Apollo Chamber Players, Musiqa, and Aperio- Music of the Americas. A strong advocate of works by living composers, Matthew has premiered dozens of works as both soloist and ensemble member. A recent recording of Nicky Sohn’s string quartet Burning is now available on Musiqa’s album Made in Houston. 

Matthew is currently the viola instructor at Lone Star College – University Park, and has taught courses at Rice University. He has also coached chamber ensembles and sectionals with students from Klein ISD and Houston’s HSPVA. Matthew holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
