Micah Doherty

Summer Music Festival: Orchestra & Chamber Music Intensive Woodwind

Micah Doherty moved to Houston in 2013 to perform as a contracted bassoonist and contrabassoonist with the Houston Symphony, a position he continued for three seasons. Currently an active freelance musician, Micah performs regularly with the Houston Symphony as well as other professional orchestras around Texas including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, and the Houston Ballet Orchestra.

Micah earned his Bachelor’s Degree in music performance at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music under the instruction of William Winstead, Principal Bassoonist of the Cincinnati Symphony. He received his Master’s Degree at Northwestern University studying with Christopher Millard, Principal Bassoonist of the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Today he can be heard performing frequently with the Houston Ballet Orchestra and Houston Grand Opera Orchestra including HGO’s full 2023/2024 season. In addition to his performing, Micah teaches private lessons and masterclasses throughout Houston, and has been a coach with the Houston Youth Symphony since 2018.
