Penny Meitz
Summer Music Festival: Orchestra & Chamber Music Workshop Conductor
Penny Meitz has been the Orchestra Director and Strings Teacher at St. John’s School for 17 years, where she holds the Mary Wood Neuhaus Chair in Music. Prior to serving at St. John’s, Ms. Meitz taught for 31 years in public school orchestra programs. She is a violist, formerly with the Houston Ballet Orchestra and Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, and she continues to perform as a freelance musician. Ms. Meitz received her training at the University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. She is a member of American String Teachers Association, American Viola Society, International Society for Music Education, Mu Omicron, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, and Texas Music Educators Association. Ms. Meitz is a past Orchestra Division Vice President of TMEA and has served on the boards of both TODA and TexASTA.
