Roger Vasquez is the Director of Orchestras at the I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to working in Fort Worth, he served as an orchestra director in Corpus Christi and Sugar Land. Mr. Vasquez has experience teaching strings to stents of all ages, and is also a very proud advocate of the double bass.
Mr. Vasquez earned his Bachelor of Music at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. His double bass studies were done with Mr. Dennis Whittaker, while his conducting studies were done under Maestro Franz Krager. His collegiate career allowed him the opportunity to perform with the Moores School Symphony Orchestra, Opera, and Ballet ensembles. While at the University of Houston, he got to travel with the Symphony Orchestra to perform at the 66th Midwest Clinic in Chicago and at the 2013 TMEA Convention in San Antonio. Mr. Vasquez recently completed his Masters in Music Education at the University of North Texas, where his primary mentor was Dr. Elizabeth Chappell.
Professional affiliations for Mr. Vasquez include memberships with the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, International Society of Bassists, and the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Outside of the orchestra classroom, Mr. Vasquez stays very busy as an active private lesson instructor, contest adjudicator, and clinician throughout Texas.
When not teaching or playing an instrument, he loves spending time with his fiancée and their three cats, cooking food, traveling the world, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
