Tyler Atkins
Summer Music Festival: Wind & Brass Workshop Assistant Conductor, Flute
Tyler Atkins is the Director of Bands at Pershing Middle School . He is a graduate of the University of North Texas class of 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. During his time there, he performed in many ensembles, notably the UNT Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band under the direction of Eugene Corporon and Dennis Fisher. Mr. Atkins has also been a Resident Assistant for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Summer Programs during the years 2018 and 2019.
Mr. Atkins graduated in 2015 from The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts under the direction of Stephen Crawford. During his time there, he performed in many ensembles including the Jazz Ensemble I, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, and Pit Orchestras for musicals. Additionally, he was a part of the 2013 and 2014 seasons of the American Festival for the Arts where he was in the composition studio and served as a member of the Flute section in the Symphony Orchestra. Also in 2015, Atkins received a merit scholar award in the composition discipline from the National YoungArts Competition by sending in two original compositions he wrote for a string quartet and a small wind ensemble, one in which he wrote at AFA.
Professional affiliations of Mr. Atkins include the Texas Music Educators Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In his spare time, he likes to play video games and watch the occasional Netflix documentary.
