Summer Music Festival: Composition Studio Boot Camp

June 15 - 28, 2024

Composition

Summer

AFA’s Composition programs during the Summer Music Festival give young musicians the opportunity to learn about and participate in the creation, development, refining and ultimately, performance of their own original work. Instruction is provided by AFA’s diverse and experienced Faculty Artists, and collaborative partnerships with several area arts organizations offer unique experiences for students.

The Boot Camp session is a two-week program focusing on the development of fundamental music skills and the student’s creative voice. Students will receive instruction in mainline subjects like music theory and orchestration as well as opportunities to experiment and work with peers, all culminating in a reading of music the students have created. This session is a good fit for students interested in trying out composition, current/former students of our year-round Composition Studies program, and/or those who have been a part of the Extended Day Composition Club in past summers.

Did you know? AFA offers tuition assistance for students who may not be able to afford the full amount; learn more here. Plus, students who attended the 2023 Summer Music Festival receive a discount of $25.00.

District Transportation Partnerships

Through partnership with AFA, select school district Fine Arts departments in the area will provide bus transportation between a central location in their respective districts and AFA for students enrolled in their districts.

As of April 1st, the students in the following districts will have access to bus transportation during this session: CyFair ISD, Fort Bend ISD, Klein ISD, Lamar Consolidated.
