Gerry Mata, DMA

AFA at HSPVA Chamber Music Trumpet

Dr. Gerry Mata is a freelancer and educator based in the Houston area. Since 2013, he has performed regularly with the Houston Grand Opera and Ballet orchestras. Dr. Mata is also 2nd trumpet of Sinfonia Gulf Coast and the Northwest Florida Symphony, both based in the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area in Florida.

As an educator, Gerry has taught trumpet players of all ages. He taught a trumpet studio and chamber music at the University of Houston, directed the Spirit of Houston Volleyball band and taught middle school students at the UH Summer Band Camp. He currently holds a private studio and teaches across the Houston Area. Many of his students have earned All-state honors and have been accepted to prestigious music schools across the country.

Dr. Mata holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, Yale University, and the University of Houston. His primary teachers include Ray Sasaki, Allan Dean, Jim Vassallo, Mark Hughes and Tom Hooten.
