Summer Music Festival: Piano Arts Workshop

July 7 - 19, 2025

Piano

Summer

Pianists at AFA’s Summer Music Festival have the unique opportunity to learn and progress as soloists and to work with peer musicians in chamber music, studio classes, and more, including music theory and enrichment classes. Pianists who are currently in 3rd grade through 8th grade (for the 24-25 school year) are eligible to audition for the Piano Arts Workshop, a 2 week session that includes up to 28 students who are divided into smaller cohorts. These peer cohorts move through guided practice sessions for their solo work, larger studio classes, topic and skill based sessions, and chamber music with either their fellow pianists or string players, all led by expert Teaching Artists. This session is the perfect opportunity for young musicians who are looking for a musically challenging and enriching experience that allows them to spend each day immersed in music.

Did you know? AFA offers tuition assistance for students who may not be able to afford the full amount; learn more here. Additional tuition discounts are available for returning students and All State musicians. New for 2025, the Early Bird Discount: Complete a Summer Music Festival application during the month of February AND audition on March 29, April 5 or April 12 and if offered a spot in the Summer Music Festival, you will receive a $25 discount.

District Transportation Partnerships:

Through partnership with AFA, select school district Fine Arts departments in the area will provide bus transportation between a central location in their respective districts and AFA for students enrolled in their districts. Check back here for updates about 2025 partnerships.

Extended Day Composition Club

Piano Arts Workshop students also have the opportunity to stay a bit longer each day (until 4:30) and try their hand at writing music in the Extended Day Composition Club. This is great for any student who is curious about how to notate ideas they might have, how melody, harmony, and rhythm work together, and information about how to write for instruments other than their own. This option is an add-on to the regular session, with tuition set at $250.00 (tuition assistance is not applicable for this tuition fee). Enrollment in this option is first-come first-served as students are offered admission in their selected regular session.
