Summer

The Orchestra & Chamber Music Workshop features a full symphonic orchestra tailored to younger players, offering a unique experience for this age group. Participants will work with expert conductors and Teaching Artists in orchestra as well as in large section and instrument section rehearsals. This session also features the chamber music ensemble experience that AFA is known for, with daily rehearsals in small ensembles learning new music, teamwork, and communication skills.

District Transportation Partnerships

Through partnership with AFA, select school district Fine Arts departments in the area will provide bus transportation between a central location in their respective districts and AFA for students enrolled in their districts. Confirmed Partners for 2026 are Fort Bend ISD (now with multiple stops), Humble ISD (two stops), Klein ISD, and Lamar Consolidated ISD. If you are enrolled in any of the districts listed, you are eligible to receive free transportation to and from AFA. This list will continue to be updated throughout the spring.

Summer Music Festival: 2026 Orchestra & Chamber Music Workshop Faculty

6, 7, 8, 9 Open to advanced string, woodwind, brass and percussion students with 2+years experience entering 7th-10th grades for the 2026-2027 school year.

Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass; Ability to play 3-octave scales and proficiency in key signatures with 2-3 flats

Woodwinds: Flute, Oboe, B-flat Clarinet, Bassoon; Ability to play 2-octave scales and proficiency in at least 2-3 key signatures with sharps

Brass: French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba; Ability to play 2-octave scales and proficiency in at least 2-3 key signatures with sharps

Percussion: Experience playing timpani, mallet instruments, and snare/toms Full Orchestra; Chamber Music; Instrument Sectionals; Music Theory & Electives; Concert Performances
