Summer

New for 2024, the Orchestra & Chamber Music Workshop features full symphonic orchestra tailored to younger players, offering a unique experience for this age group. Participants will work with expert conductors and faculty artists in orchestra as well as large section and instrument section rehearsals. This session also features the chamber music ensemble experience that AFA is known for, with daily rehearsals in small ensembles learning new music, teamwork, and communication skills.

This session overlaps with the Orchestra & Chamber Music Intensive, allowing Workshop students to see and hear what lies ahead for them in future summers.

District Transportation Partnerships

Through partnership with AFA, select school district Fine Arts departments in the area will provide bus transportation between a central location in their respective districts and AFA for students enrolled in their districts. As of April 1st, CyFair, Fort Bend, and Klein. and Lamar Consolidated districts will offer bus transportation during this session.

Summer Music Festival: Orchestra & Chamber Music Workshop Faculty

6, 7, 8, 9 Open to advanced string, woodwind, brass and percussion students with 2+years experience in 6th-9th grades for the 2023-2024 school year.

Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass; Ability to play 3 octave scales; Proficiency in 2-3 flat key signatures (As of April 10, new cello applicants will be considered for the waiting list only)

Woodwinds: Flute, Oboe, B-flat Clarinet, Bassoon; Ability to play 2 octave scales; Proficiency in at least 2-3 sharp key signatures

Brass: French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba; Ability to play 2 octave scales; Proficiency in at least 2-3 sharp key signatures

Percussion: Experience playing timpani, mallet instruments, and snare/toms Full Orchestra; Chamber Music; Instrument Sectionals; Music Theory & Electives; Concert Performances
